How Rhythmic Gymnastics Can Improve Your Life

As the premier facility for gymnastics instruction in Los Angeles, LASG offers a range of activities that can enhance the lives of its students. From the pommel horse to trampolining, from swimming to arts and crafts, LASG students benefit from programs that increase their discipline, cognition, endurance and focus.

One of the sports that LASG offers which can be most beneficial to students is rhythmic gymnastics. What is rhythmic gymnastics? Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport in which acrobatic and calisthenic routines are performed on a floor mat, much like a professional dance performance. In fact, a rhythmic gymnastics routine is basically a dance routine that incorporates acrobatic elements like cartwheels and flips.

In addition to dance-like routines, rhythmic gymnastics is distinguished by its use of props. Rhythmic gymnasts use props like hoops, ribbons and balls to enhance their floor routines. During a given move, they might toss a ball in the air, balance a hoop on their foot, or swing a ribbon tied to a stick. Such performances are often visually stunning and a joy to watch. Why should an LASG student study rhythmic gymnastics? In addition to the obvious physical benefits, rhythmic gymnastics offers mental and lifestyle benefits too. Want to know what some of these benefits are? Read on for a short list of the many positive effects of studying rhythmic gymnastics.

Improves Your Musicality

Are you an amateur or professional musician? Looking to improve as a public speaker, singer or performer? Learning rhythmic gymnastics can be a great way to improve your sense of musicality, whether it be rhythm, tone or fluidity. Rhythmic gymnastics routines are usually performed to the sound of floor music, which can come from many different musical genres. Losing yourself in movement can help your appreciation of music grow, as well as your sense of self-expression.

Improves Your Health

In addition to other benefits, doing rhythmic gymnastics will definitely improve your fitness level. Besides benefitting your cardiovascular health, routines will help develop your muscular strength, flexibility and hand-eye coordination. By staying fit and trim through studying this sport, you can avoid common diseases like obesity and diabetes as well.

Improves Coordination

Rhythmic gymnastics is a whole-body sport which engages the brain as well as the muscles. As a result, your coordination, balance and precision as an athlete are strongly enhanced through this sport. In fact, if you ever choose to take up another sports activity, your rhythmic gymnastics experience will be a significant asset.

Improves Self-Esteem

If you?re looking for an easy and fun way to build your self-esteem, rhythmic gymnastics may be the perfect answer. For example, the skills needed to master this expressive sport are easy to develop. When working with a ribbon, for instance, a simple flick of the wrist will create a hypnotizing arc in the air. Seeing quick progress in your training will definitely make you feel better about yourself.

Enhances Social Intelligence

As a sport that involves lots of teamwork and social interaction, rhythmic gymnastics is fantastic for helping people develop their social skills. Planning and rehearsing the average floor routine requires you to work closely with your group mates to create different sequences. On a day-to-day basis, these interactions help you become comfortable with interpersonal communication, which can help you professionally and personally.

Our adult gymnastics classes feature exercises that incorporate balance, flexibility, stretching, and strength training while enhancing your ability as a gymnast. In addition to being a powerful athletic aid, our classes have a massive impact on your general health and wellness: Stretching, jumping, running and tumbling on a regular basis all help reduce the risk of many diseases. Gymnastics exercises use every muscle in the body – they?re the perfect workout!

These classes are fun, rigorous, and challenging – no matter if you?re a former competitive gymnast or simply an adult who?s always admired watching Olympic gymnasts on TV. Conducted by safety-certified instructors who guide our students every step of the way, our classes are open to all adults. What are the benefits of adult gymnastics classes? For one thing, gymnastics can help improve your body?s flexibility and strengthen your bones and muscles. The class exercises you learn help you develop a greater range of motion, and increase your level of control over your movements.

After the age of 30, your body naturally starts to lose bone and muscle mass. Weight-bearing activities, or activities that require you to bear most of your body weight on your arms or legs, help stop this process and keep you strong and healthy. As the quintessential weight-bearing activity, gymnastics assists you in avoiding osteoporosis and keeping your bones and muscles developed and strong.

In addition to physical benefits, adult gymnastics classes can have powerful mental benefits as well. Gymnastics can help you improve your focus and concentration, as well as your cognition and energy levels. It can even help your body produce endorphins, which keep your mood elevated! By taking regular gymnastics classes, your coordination and startle reflex can both improve as well. This can be beneficial in your day-to-day life.

As part of a regular exercise regimen, gymnastics classes serve as a protective factor against many common ailments, including:

  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Asthma
  • Heart disease
  • Obesity

Finally, they can assist in developing your sense of discipline, which helps with professional achievement and other goals. They can also help instill a sense of confidence and self-esteem, which leads to more successes at home, in the workplace and beyond. By taking gymnastics classes, you can equip yourself with all the tools you need to fulfill your dreams. It?s a no-lose proposition!Want to learn more about taking adult gymnastics classes at LASG? Help Your Boy Excel By Enrolling Him In Boys? Gymnastics!

Are you looking for an activity that will enhance your son?s physical, mental and emotional abilities? Do you want him to learn important skills that will help him in his academic, professional and personal life? If you?re looking to provide your son with training that will give him important life skills, consider enrolling him in LASG?s boys gymnastics program for an experience that will make for lifelong memories!

What are the benefits of gymnastics for boys?

Unlike other activities, gymnastics offers perks that can help boys in every aspect of life. This holistic approach develops the whole child, not just the intellect or personality.

For example, gymnastics athletes are known for their discipline and tenacity. Refining gymnastics routines requires a lot of persistence and hard work. Boys who learn these skills early tend to find success much more frequently in other areas of life.

Gymnastics classes don?t only develop endurance – they also have valuable psychological effects on boys. Through learning and performing routines, boys gradually build their confidence as athletes. This confidence often spills over into other activities, like school or work, and can last long after your son stops class. Gymnastics can also help your son develop higher levels of self-esteem. Through mastering difficult skills, he learns to love and value himself as a hard worker, which will allow him greater stability in life.

Through studying gymnastics, your son will enjoy cognitive and physical benefits as well. By practicing routines, your son can develop important skills like strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, and body control – all which contribute to a child?s cognitive development.

In addition, studying gymnastics sets the foundation for healthy physical fitness habits throughout your son?s lifetime.

The social benefits of gymnastics are considerable and well-documented. Through taking classes, your son will develop powerful social skills that will serve him well in work and life. These include listening skills, following directions, respecting authority, teamwork, and humility. By providing structure and routine to your son?s day, classes will also offer a sense of security and control. These are protective factors for your son?s confidence and mental health.

At LASG, our all-male classes are taught by highly-qualified male coaches. In class, your son will be taught how to perform a wide spectrum of routines, including floor exercises, the parallel bars, the pommel horse, the still rings, the high bar and the vault.

Beginners will learn the basics of gymnastics in a 1-hour class, in accordance with the USA Gymnastics Level 1 program.

Intermediate gymnasts will advance to a 90-minute class that draws upon the USA Gymnastics Level 2 – 3 programs. In these classes, there will be longer rotations with equipment and more strength and flexibility conditioning. The goal is to develop a greater proficiency in performing routines, with an emphasis on safety first.

For advanced gymnasts, the LASG Boys? Competitive Teams draw upon the competitive Men?s Gymnastics program of USA Gymnastics. This includes Levels 4 – 10. The Competitive Teams focus on refining and performing advanced skills and routines. Our teams have received top honors and achieved nationally-ranked status, including qualifying for the USA Gymnastics All-Star Team.

Tumble-tastic Outdoor Gymnastics

The access to an outdoor space provides additional opportunities for a gymnastics academy such as ours to instruct keen students. Strength building, tumbling, beam and vault skills, and more. Outdoor gymnastics helps children develop numerous life skills and gain valuable experience that they can transfer to other areas of their life.

  • Gymnastics builds flexibility, balance, and strength, all of which will aid an individual in physical development and athletic performance elsewhere.
  • It also encourages the development of perseverance, patience, trust, and the ability to confront and manage risk. Gymnastics is not easy, and it takes courage and trust to put your body on the line in order to acquire new skills, as well as patience to master those skills over time.
  • Gymnastics presents an encouraging, safe environment for physical management. It is also a non-competitive environment, where young gymnasts can progress at their own pace, and relationships incentivize support rather than infighting.

If you?d like to enroll your child or children in outdoor gymnastics classes, contact the Los Angeles School of Gymnastics. You can sign up for a free evaluation to place your child in the appropriate class for their skill level.

Socially Distant Gymnastics Classes in Los Angeles

Are you looking for socially distant gymnastics classes in Los Angeles? The COVID-19 pandemic necessitates changes in the way we do everything, from grocery shopping to eating out to gymnastics classes. Gyms and gymnastic schools across the country are taking the pandemic very seriously, and taking all reasonable steps to reopen gymnastics classes safely. Los Angeles School of Gymnastics understands that parents want to be sure that their children are not exposed to unacceptable levels of risk. That?s why our reopening plans include measures to practice social distancing as much as possible in these circumstances.

Staying Active While Socially Distancing

With the majority of California?s schools staying closed in the fall, particularly in Los Angeles County, families are going to be facing the issue of how to keep their kids active at home without Phys Ed classes. Exercise is critical for good physical and mental health, and with pandemic conditions in Los Angeles being what they are, every little helps. While adults need 150 minutes of exercise a week, it?s recommended that children between 6 and 17 do 60 minutes of exercise a day, with a weekly routine that includes:

  • Aerobic exercise, such as bicycle riding, swimming, martial arts, or gymnastics.
  • Muscle-strengthening exercises, such as weight training (or for younger children, tug of war, cartwheels, and crab walks).
  • Bone-strengthening exercises, such as hopscotch, running, or basketball.

Gymnastics is also beneficial for bone and strength training.

Gymnastics Classes During the Lockdown

Los Angeles School of Gymnastics is offering fitness programming during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have invested a great deal in protecting our staff and customers and have devised many protective measures.

  • Students line up outside the building, spaced apart, so as not to come into each other?s personal space.
  • When entering the building, parent and child approach together, and are ushered in one at a time. For students old enough to be safely dropped off, we recommend drop in classes.
  • All students will be prompted to use hand sanitizer prior to class, and periodic breaks for hand washing with antibacterial soap will be taken.
  • Staff will be wearing masks and gloves at all times. Staff will guide by verbal instructions only.
  • Parents will be able to live stream fitness classes using our Spot TV service.
  • Our class sizes are limited for our indoor space, with six-foot spacing denoted by tape markings.
  • Staff will sanitize equipment before and after classes, and overnight as well. EPA-registered disinfectant will be used on hard surfaces, and color-safe bleach spray and steam cleaning used on soft surfaces.
  • We offer distanced classes in our astroturfed outdoor space, in addition.

At times such as this, when many people are feeling anxious about their family?s safety, and unsure how to explain the situation to their children, safely-administered gymnastics lessons are a great activity that kids can join to build confidence and get the exercise their growing bodies need.
