Don?t let this Winter Break go to Waste

Winter break is coming up fast and your children will be out of school for two whole weeks. You?re probably wondering what they?re going to be up to. If you enroll them in a Winter Break Gymnastics Camp, they will keep busy while also learning a fun, new skill. At Winter Break Gymnastics Camp they will learn discipline, fitness skills and begin their journey to the Olympics! Even more, they will get a chance to meet other athletes who might become their friends for the rest of their lives. Winter Break camp at LA School of Gymnastics will help keep them occupied and entertained and it will provide an opportunity for your child to learn and grow. In addition to gymnastics camp, here are some other winter break ideas and activities for you and your children to explore:

  • Assign a book for your children to read, or read a book in tandem with your child. This provides the opportunity to learn, become a better writer and stay sharp while they?re away from school.
  • Put your kids to work in the kitchen! Give your children their first cooking lessons! They will have fun learning and eating. The most important lesson to learn while cooking is safety. Teach them how to turn off the stove and other electronics?it?s better to teach your kids about kitchen safety at an early age.
  • Go no-tech and do some arts and crafts. You can cut out snowflakes from decorative paper, you can make a winter terrarium with plants such as succulents or you can make snow globes. Stimulate your child?s creativity and have some fun!
  • Charitable causes are ideal activities to participate in during all times of the year, including winter break. This is a great time to find a cause that your children can become involved with for the rest of their lives.
  • Clean out your closet and donate your clothes and other personal items to a charitable cause.
  • Hit the slopes! If your children don?t know how to ski or snowboard, or are only acquainted with one of the two, this is the time to learn.
  • Don?t let Winter Break fly by without creating great memories for your child! With gymnastics camp here at LA School of Gymnastics, along with all the other fun activities, this could be the best Winter Break ever!

A Mother?s Complete Guide to Halloween Safety

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, child pedestrian accidents increase by 4x on Halloween. Here are a few tips for Halloween Safety from Coupon Chief.com

Mother?s Street-Savvy Safety Talk with the Children

    Use the Crosswalk

Since 70% of Halloween pedestrian accidents occur outside of a crosswalk or crossing intersection, you?ll avoid much of the risk by crossing only in designated places. Use your street-crossing skills by looking left, right, then back to the left before stepping into the roadway.

    Make Eye Contact with Drivers

Never assume the person driving that 2-ton machine sees you and is yielding the right-of-way to you. Look squarely at the person behind the wheel. You should see them looking back at you and maybe even motioning you to go ahead and cross. Never assume a car is stopping for you. Many won?t. They expect you to stop for them.

    Put Your Phone Away

If ever there was a poor time to be out for a walk with your eyes focused on a smartphone screen, Halloween is it. Be hyper-vigilant, avoid distractions of all kinds, and be aware of your surroundings. Stay safe!

    Walk, Don?t Run

It?s easy to get carried away with all the Halloween fun and start chasing one another down the street. Many pedestrian accidents on Halloween occur because a child darted out into the road from between parked cars. Even if your friends start acting wild, you don?t have to go along with them. Smart kids stay vigilant and get home safely.

    Plan Your Route

Not only can you get to more houses and better-stocked houses by planning ahead, you can avoid areas where the sidewalks are in poor condition or non-existent, you can choose well-lit areas, you can minimize street crossings, you can avoid crossing or walking near railroad tracks, and you won?t have to worry about getting disoriented, then ending up in an area that?s spooky even when it isn?t Halloween.

    When Running IS Appropriate

Should a driver stop and ask you to get in the car or someone on the street try to get you to go somewhere with them, that?s the time to run. Use the ?No, Go, Yell, Tell? technique: Yell ?NO!? and run away to a safe place (maybe to the friendly house you just left). Keep yelling as you run, and tell an adult immediately.

Los Angeles School of Gymnastics Fashion

Fashion is very important for gymnasts! Not only does the right outfit have to fit and feel good, it also has to look good! There are lots of things to consider when trying to find the right gymnastics outfit: the fabric, the style, the design, the fit, the measurements, the cut and much more! Most importantly, you have to feel good in the outfit you are wearing because it will give you the confidence to strut and be fabulous while you are out there demonstrating your greatness. First you must determine the right fit for your leotard. For training leotards, you can get one with a little more wiggle room but competition leotards should be snug and perfectly designed for your body. Make sure that competition leotards aren?t too restrictive, you want to be able to move freely when you are doing your routine. Another thing to consider when choosing leotards are the sleeves. There are three types of sleeve options for leotards: long sleeve, three-quarter length sleeves, and sleeveless. Make sure you choose the perfect option for your gymnast and don?t forget to take into consideration the weather and the comfort of the sleeve style. Another thing to consider is the style of the Leotard back. Some options are cami-straps, key-hole, wide-open, or racer. When picking a leotard it is important to look at the back so that you can determine the correct undergarments to wear. The backing also gives the young gymnast great style options and the opportunity for stylistic expression.

Another thing to consider when choosing a Leotard is the fabric. Metallic, lycra, nylon and velvet are some of the fabric options for leotards. Each of these different fabrics have there pros and cons and it is important to get a feel for which fabric works best for your little gymnast and which one won?t be too itchy. Lastly, make sure you get all the right measurements: chest, waist, hip, inseam, and girth! These parts of the body need to fit perfectly into the leotard so that the leotard moves with the gymnast and also looks good. Unitards are great option for boys and younger girls.

We offer plenty of leotard styles at the Los Angeles School for Gymnastics. Our leotards are a perfect option for your young gymnast! We also have plenty of other attire such as sweaters, t shirts, unitards, and shorts for everyday wear. We love our little gymnasts!

Choose Los Angeles School of Gymnastics, The Top Rated Gymnastics Program

When you enroll your child at a top rated gymnastics program through Los Angeles School of Gymnastics, your child will enjoy numerous and varied benefits. These benefits from a top rated gymnastics program include an increase in academic interest and performance, bolstering of their social life, increase in overall happiness and increase in interest in a prosperous future.

A Top Rated Gymnastics Program Will Improve Your Child?s Life

Finding the right after school program or top rated gymnastics program can be difficult. You need a program that fits the needs of your child and your family. Your first course of action is to ask your child what their interest is. Some children are very certain about what they want to do, but their motives can be skewed. They may want to follow what their friends are doing, or they may want to emulate something they see on television. You want to present ideas to them and be able to substantiate the options you?ve delineated. Consider if your child is an introvert, a high energy individual, a loner, etc.

When scheduling a top rated gymnastics program, remember to be sensitive of overburdening your child. If they seem exhausted or overworked, you may need to reevaluate priorities. Of course, children need a sense of discipline to be ready for the rigors of higher education and a ?regular? work life. In that case, there is a balance you want to strike such that your child has enough activity to keep them busy, but not so much as so overwhelm them. You don?t want them to be excessively idle, but you do want your children to have time for homework, rest and personal activities.

When enrolling your children in a top rated gymnastics program, consider their strengths and weaknesses. They may be dedicated, shy, be attention seeking or enjoy solitude. Enrollment in a top rated gymnastics program will help balance a child, increase their strengths and decrease their weaknesses. They may be out of their comfort zone, which is a great character builder when you?ve provided an emotional safety net for the children. You?ll find that your child has developed attention, motor skills, self-esteem, social skills, attention, academic skills and academic accomplishment and will have a decreased need for emotional and behavioral counseling.

If your child needs motivation to join a top rated gymnastics program, there are a number of tactics to consider. You may want to sign your child up with a friend of theirs. Pair the program with another program. Consider offering incentives for completing or participating in the program. Also consider setting a goal for participating or performing a simple completion, competition or ascending to higher levels.

If you have any online shopping to do before the Fall school season starts, Amazon is THE place to get that done. So easy to forget about since you never pass one on the way to work, or to dropping the kids off, but since Amazon has less overhead since they have less employees, you get a lot of that extra dough.

AND when you shop through the link above, you help support our non-profit organization because Amazon cares about small business. Unlike some of the other big corporate stores.

Olympic medalist and Coach Yefim Furman at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics

The Olympics were amazing this year. Specifically, the wonder-woman Simone Biles was exceptional.

Team USA brought home a lot of medals, but unfortunately none were in rhythmic gymnastics which began Friday of last week.

It was an amazing performance, but if you didn?t get your fill of rhythmic gymnastics mark your calenders.

Some of the greatest athletes in the country and in the world will join together to compete in rhythmic gymnastics using clubs, hoops, ropes, balls, ribbons and performing in floor exercises. It will be a spectacle, a work of smooth motion that is magical.

To see an example of rhythmic gymnastics in action, watch this video of the Rio Olympic Gymnastics Gala below:

Our All Star Cheer team is AMAZING and we just held tryouts.

Our teams constantly compete at the national and international level, and many go on to cheer for their colleges. Looking for the right program for your daughter? This might be it!

Did you miss tryouts? Remain Calm. You can schedule a Private Tryout with JoAnn, our cheer instructor.

A form of ice skating is something you may not have known we were involved in. Ice skating invovles the grace and magnificence of floating smoothly over flat ice, leaving only a faint trail carved in the ice to hint at the beauty that once stood there.

There is a class we offer here at the Los Angeles School of Gymnastics that replicates those incredible motions found in ice skating with the slight change in the amount of ice. You will learn routines similar to the smooth moves you learn in a rhythmic gymnastics class, but this class is performed on rollerblades.

Taught by one of our amazing coaches, who has been a professional rhythmic gymnastics coach, a professional dance coach, and a professional figure skater herself.
